Wattisham Flying Station has had another productive period for squash. Holding a Monrad individual competition alongside a team league over a period of 12 weeks to allow for maximum participation and flexibility for deployments and shift patterns across a very busy station. 21 SP entered the competition, with the winners of the event below:
Open Winner – Sgt Cooper
Open runner up – Lt Col lambert
Open plate winner – WO2 Stokes
Open Plate runner up – Cfn Hodkinson
Team winners – 3AAC – Lt Col Simcock, WO2 Stokes, SSgt Robbie, Sgt Cooper, LCpl Houghton
3AAC then entered 2 teams into the Midlands battle for centre competition hosted by 30 Signal Regiment at Gamecock Barracks. After a hard fought group stage, both teams managed to progress into the semi-finals. A tough match for the B team put them in the 3rd place play off, in which they won. The A team managed to win the final and come overall winners of the event. Showing the depth of quality of players that WFS has, placing 1st and 3rd in the competition in a field of 12 units with 15 teams entered. WFS are now looking to host Stowmarket Squash club in October in a rematch which is being looked forward to all by all after their fantastic hospitality back in June.
